DIGSWELL HOUSE
Where History Comes Alive
Digswell House was built in 1805-07 by Samuel Wyatt for the Honorable Edward Spencer Cowper. Since then it has been used for various purposes including as a nursing home for wounded Australian soldiers during WWI; the private home of Sir Ebenezer Howard (founder of the garden city movement and lead architect of Welwyn Garden City); a conference centre welcoming the likes of Mahatma Gandi, George Bernard Shaw and other leading politicians of the time; and as an artists retreat and the home of Digswell Arts Trust.

Today, Digswell House is a private residence with the grounds and house being cared for by the Digswell House Residents Association.
